Dr. André Silva Pimentel

PUC-Rio “Explainable Artificial Intelligence for the Design of Novel Anticancer RNA- and Peptide-Based Therapeutics”

Dr. André Silva Pimentel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry of UFRJ (1996). He holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry of UFRJ (2001). He completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Michigan in 2002. He was a Research Associate at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center from 2002 to 2004. He was a Research Associate at the Institute of Chemistry of São Carlos, USP, from 2005 to 2007. Since then, he has been an Associate Professor (Level 2) in the Department of Chemistry at PUC-Rio, working in the areas of molecular simulation, explainable artificial intelligence, toxicology, and drug design using explainable machine learning. He was FAPERJ Young Scientist of Our State from 2010 to 2012. Currently, he is now a CNPq Productivity Researcher (Level 2) and FAPERJ Scientist of Our State with approximately 74 international scientific articles.
